Margaret Davis

Margaret is the European Employment Law Practice Leader and was until May of 2008 Head of the Employment and Pensions Group. Margaret has, since qualification in 1983, specialised in employment and discrimination law. In this time she has acted for a number of substantial companies in relation to a wide range of employment and discrimination issues and disputes, including trade union issues and defending a client in respect of 95 claims arising out of dismissals following a lockout and industrial action. Margaret has also undertaken trans-Atlantic mediation for a claim in excess of £8m but which was resolved for a payment under £2m. The emphasis of her work is advising and guiding clients through the minefield of UK employment law and representing them in the Employment Tribunals when claims are made.

She has previously been a non-Executor Director and Chair of the HR Committee of East Kent Hospitals Trust, one of the largest hospitals in the country. She was the Trust’s representative on the Improving Working Lives Committee, its designated NED Freedom of Information champion and was involved in the work of Equality and Diversity Steering Group for East Kent.

Margaret was also a member of the National Clinical Assessment Authority Task Group set up to address occupational re-entry following assessment of clinical practice or a period of suspension, the Appeals Reinstatement Committee of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, the Law Society, the Industrial Law Society, the European Employment Lawyers Association, the Employment Lawyers Association, the City HR Group and the Central London Retail Personnel Group.
