Cheryl qualified at a law firm in Melbourne, Australia in 2002 and gained two years experience specialising in both contentious and non-contentious employment law, working for clients in the public and private sector, from not-for-profit organisations through to listed companies. In England, Cheryl has worked in the Treasury Solicitor's Department in the employment team, undertaking work for various government departments including the HM Prison Service, Home Office, Department for Constitutional Affairs and the Charity Commission for England and Wales. Prior to joining Field Fisher Waterhouse LLP, Cheryl worked as an in-house legal advisor at the Audit Commission, a body that audits local government and NHS bodies, dealing with a range of employment advice and litigation work, including advising on a major redundancy exercise.
Since joining FFW in December 2005, Cheryl has handled a variety of Employment Tribunal cases for both government departments and other companies in media and retail, ranging from unfair dismissal claims, trade union health and safety detriment claims, various types of discrimination claims and statutory questionnaires and TUPE-related protective awards. She has also advised clients on their policies and procedures and contracts of employment, as well as providing corporate support on employment issues in share and business purchases and transfers. She has recently co-written a chapter of an on-line book on financial services regulation and its impact on employment issues within regulated firms.
