New Employment
Legislation |

There is always a raft of new legislation which takes effect in
April, and this year is no exception. Here are some of the main changes
affecting employers, from this month. |

3 April 2005: |
|

The flat rate statutory maternity pay has increased to £106 per
week. |
|
6 April 2005: |
|
|
* |
The Information and Consultation of Employees Regulations 2004 come
into effect. These set out minimum rights for employees to be informed and
consulted by their employers on various workplace issues. The regulations
are being phased in over several years; for now, they apply only to
undertakings with 150 or more employees. |

Part-time employees will be entitled to receive the same tax-free
outplacement counselling and re-training expenses as full-time employees,
if made redundant. |

Further sections of the Employment Relations Act 2004 come into
force, including provisions relating to union recognition and industrial
action. |

The Statutory Maternity Pay (General) (Amendment) Regulations 2005
change the rules for calculating maternity pay. Please see our first
